Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis and Minister of Finance, will present the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) 2018 Budget Address on February 12, 2018 at 10 a.m. The annual address will occur when the Nevis Island Assembly meets in the chambers of the Hamilton House.

According to the Order Paper outlining the events at the sitting that were circulated by Ms. Myra Williams, Clerk of the Assembly, Hon. Farrel Smithen, President of the Assembly will make his formal entry to the Chamber followed by prayers. New members will the take their Oaths of Allegiance, followed by a motion for the approval of the Order Paper as circulated. After which, will be Messages from Acting Deputy Governor-General Her Honour Marjorie Morton, then Announcements by the President.

Hon. Brantley will then lay on the table The Draft Estimates 2018, followed by Statements by Ministers and Personal Explanations. This will be followed by the first introduction and reading of The Nevis Appropriation (2018) Ordinance, 2018.

 

Then will come Public Business, followed by Premier Brantley’s move for the bill’s second reading.

The Finance Minister will then outline fiscal measures for the ensuing year, and would proceed to adjourn the sitting to allow members of the Opposition to review the budget and return the following day to respond to the budget. The debate will commence thereafter.

The final item on the Order Paper will be Resolutions.
