NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (April 28, 2016) — The Ministry of Tourism is inviting members of the public to support a Career Fair and Taste of Nevis, a highlight of its Exposition Nevis calendar. The event is carded for April 29 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the grounds of the Artisan Village, next to the Nevis Craft House at Pinney’s Industrial Site. The theme is “All things Tourism; Savour the Flavour.”

According to Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism John Hanley, the event will showcase the varied products that Nevis, as a tourism destination, offers.

“We will also use this as an opportunity to expose students and the general public to the number of careers that exist in the tourism sector, among them chefs, waiters, gardeners, landscapers, pilots and taxi drivers.

“Professionals from the various tourism establishments will be on hand to explain their jobs and to let the public know what is required if one wishes to pursue a career in that particular area,” he said.

Hanley also noted that the Ministry will be using the event to promote domestic tourism and to encourage Nevisians to appreciate and enjoy the island’s tourism product.

He explained that many hotels and other tourism establishments have special offers and packages which are specifically-tailored for locals wishing to celebrate a special event or to take a vacation on the island.

Regarding the Taste of Nevis component of Friday’s outreach activity, the tourism official said it involves a series of chef demonstrations utilising local ingredients. A number of local restaurants will also be on hand to display their specially-prepared dishes and menus.
