NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (January 29, 2016)–Premier of Nevis, Honourable Vance Amory said it is critical to ensure that his administration gets the best from the Public Service so that Nevisians can get the best services. This statement was made in his report on the Permanent Secretaries meeting which convened in the Conference Room of the Premier’s Ministry at Bath Hotel, on January 22, 2016.

Among the critical areas discussed were management of staff and their performance of duties within the various ministries. Mr. Amory believes that Nevisians deserve the best services – whether in health, education or simply to get advice from the public servants about the public service.

“I think this is critical to ensure that we get the best from our Public Service so the people of Nevis can get the best services when they attend the various offices… whether it is health, education or to pay their taxes, to simply get advice from the Public Servants or about the Public Service.”

Other pertinent areas dealt with were provision of additional public space in relation to the proposed new Government Headquarters and the rehabilitation of the center of Charlestown which surrounds the buildings which previously housed the treasury and warehouse in addition to, the use of government vehicles.

Mr. Amory said that a committee comprising of Permanent Secretaries has been set up to ensure that the rehabilitation project is effected.

“We have set up in that group of Permanent Secretaries a committee which would be looking at making this project of the development rehabilitation of Charlestown a reality.”

He also said the administration needs better management of government vehicles to prevent short term replacement of these vehicles.

“I believe we need to see much better control, much better management of the government vehicles because this would ensure that there is no wastage of government resources and also to ensure that government vehicles are handled in a way that will let them serve out their lives so that we would not have to be replacing vehicles in a short order” said Premier Amory

According to the Premier, the Permanent Secretaries, who are the chief advisors to the government, expressed their views on how they see their roles and how they intend to implement the programs that the government has outlined in the Budget for 2016 so that Nationals can benefit from those policies.
