CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (December 15, 2010) -- The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) was commend by a Senior Civil Servant for its move to provide vendors at the Charlestown Public Market with a brand new facility early in 2011, having endured adverse working conditions there for several years.
The gratitude came from Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Hon. Kelvin Daly in an interview with the Department of Information on Monday following the start of demolition work on the 50 year old facility on Sunday.
“It may sound political but it is really not. It is all about accountability and transparency and just to say thank you to persons who have assisted. This Public Market has been an eyesore for a while on Nevis.

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (December 15, 2010) -- The Vendors at the Charlestown Public Market received a public apology from Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture on Nevis Dr. Kelvin Daly, for an unforeseen disruption in their service early Monday morning. He said a miscommunication between the contractor and his Ministry with regard to the exact time demolition work would commence on the market was responsible.
In an interview with the Department of Information on Monday, he noted that the Ministry was able to spring into action with its pre arranged plans to house the vendors when they arrived at the Market and demolition work had already commenced.

CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (December 15, 2010) -- Relief is on the way for vendors at the Charlestown Public Market who for years had complained about their working conditions there. In about five months, they will receive a brand new and modern EC$850,000 facility funded under the Nevis Island Administration’s (NIA) Stimulus programme.
Demolition work on the over 50 year old dilapidated market which had become a health hazard, commenced on Sunday. One day later, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Kelvin Daly told the Department of Information that on completion the floor would be recapped and a two storey facility would be constructed. The second floor will be used for dry goods and office space. The contractor is Mr. Meredith “Sapodilla” Hendrickson of Hickmans Village.

American Eagle landing at the Nevis Airport
(Charlestown, Nevis--Tuesday, December 14th, 2010) Premier of Nevis and Minister of Tourism in the Nevis Island Administration, the Hon. Joseph Parry expressed satisfaction with the return of American Eagle’s schedule flights to Nevis, after a two- year hiatus.
The airline is slated to return to Nevis on its first scheduled flight at 1:55pm on Thursday, December 16th.
“After two years of no direct flights between San Juan, Puerto Rico and Nevis since the closing of the Four Seasons Resort, I am very pleased with the recommencement of that important flight back to the island,” said Hon. Joseph Parry.
